Introduction

Once you have a Computer, Monitor, or Laptop, and a workable Internet connection setup, you should think about and computer peripherals, to further help you build your home workstation.

Headphones

A good set of headphones can help you fine tune your sound design as well as help you concentrate in loud environments. It can also help you concentrate during class lecture, and not disturb others. Make sure to read reviews and choose a model that is right for you. Some headphones have a built-in microphone that can be useful during online meetings. The most convenient would be 'wired' headphones, but wireless headphones are available either with a receiver that plugs into your PC, or using Bluetooth (as long as your PC/Laptop supports it).

Speakers

Computer speakers can offer a better/fuller range of sound, and it saves on having to wear a headset or earbuds most of the time, which can cause extra fatigue. Just make sure you won't be disturbing others if using speakers, or need to have private/personal conversations.

Microphones

Microphones are useful for recording voice tracks, participating in class lectures, or collaborating with others on a team. There are a variety of different microphones with different use cases. Many already come with Headphones, or built-into webcams. Others are stand-alone and usually offer a better quality of sound. Most plug-in to your motherboard audio section or sound card. Others, can plug-in via USB.

Webcams

Webcams are very useful for online meetings, collaboration with other members on a team, or streaming. There are a wide range of webcams are available. It is important that you pick the model best suited for your needs. If you are primarily doing meetings, then a narrow field of view is adequate (75 - 90degrees).  If you are wanting to show more of your space/surroundings, and need a wider angle, then a wider field of view camera would be recommended (90 - 120degress). It's recommended a 720p or 1080p webcam for the majority of use cases.  720/1080p@30fps capability would be a minimum.  For a smoother video look, 720/1080p@60fps would be recommended.

Mouse and Keyboard

A mouse and keyboard can be useful even if you have a laptop. Some software makes use of the numeric pad often, it is recommended that you choose a full size Keyboard with a numeric pad. Having a separate mouse and keyboard, will also help your desktop ergonomics so you are not always 'leaning' toward your laptop and being too close to the laptop screen.

Adapters

Depending on your computer you may need adapters to properly plug in certain devices. Make sure to have those adapters ready, in case you need to use them.
